122mm Rockets and Rain
 
 
 31 January During the evening into the morning of the next day the enemy fired eight 122mm rockets at DaNang airfield. Three of the rockets failed to explode; the others set fire to a 50,000-gallon fuel dump, slightly damaged two Marine KC-130's, killed a Vietnamese woman, and wounded two U.S. Navy personnel.
 
     Members of the Company also worked a combined U.S. and Vietnamese traffic and security check point operations called "Golf." The detail at the intersection was manned by three to five MP's.

15 July PVT Christopher Corwin Cook,  age 19, of San Jose, CA, died as the result of non hostile activity, accidental self destruction, in Quang Nam Province.

22 October The DaNang area was struck by Typhoon Hester with sustained winds of 75 miles per hour and gusts of over 85 miles per hour, causing loss of life and major property damage on land and in the harbor.

21 December Members of the 188th MP Company were assigned to security at the Bob Hope USO tour when it performed at Freedon Hill, DaNang. Accompaning Bob Hope were, Jim Nabors, Sunday's Child, Vida Blue, Charley Pride, Jill St. John, Jan Daly, Suzanne Charny, Brucene Smith, The Hollywood Deb Stars, The Blue Streaks, Rear Admiral Alan B. Shepard, Bon Ho, and Les Brown.
