June/July ? Members of the 188th MP Company from the detachment were responding in their V100 to the scene of a huge booby trapped roadblock between Cai Lay and My Tho when they came across a Vietnamese truck that had driven off the road and flipped on its side. The crew, SP/4s Jim Preusz, Huley R. Johnson and John M. Novak stopped to render assistance to the ARVN occupants. They treated the driver for minor injuries and used their V100 to pull the truck back onto the roadway.
The crew then continued on their four mile trip from Cai Lay to the roadblock. At the scene they found four 55 gallon drums and a lot of mud in the middle of the road. There were also seven 10 kilogram plastic charges and one 20 kilogram mine planted in the roadblock. It took the men from the 15th Engineer Battalion four hours to blast the roadblock with a whole series of charges. The crew members from the 188th performed traffic control and perimeter security during the clearing operation.
